BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Governor Maura Healey signed a new law requiring salary range transparency.
The law, An Act Relative to Salary Range Transparency, stated that employers with more than 25 employees needs to list the pay range in job listings. Companies with 100 or more employees need to file a wage data report to the state. This law applies to both private and public companies.
In addition, the law requires employers to offer salary range for promotions, and protects employees' rights to ask companies for a salary range.
Before, pay range disclosure on job listings was not a requirement in Massachusetts, which advocates attributed to the worsening gender and racial wage gap over the years. However, this law aims to rectify that.
Gov. Healey said in a statement that this new law is a step towards to wage equality, especially for women and People of Color. She added that “It will also strengthen the ability of Massachusetts employers to build diverse, talented teams.”
