ROXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Food Project’s urban community garden in Roxbury unveiled a vibrant new mural on Saturday.
The Food Project is a non-profit organization working to address food insecurity for local families while engaging young activist within the community. The project has built 70 acres of urban and suburban farmland statewide.
The new artwork pays tribute to all of the hard work young volunteers have done to grow the garden.
“This is my gift to them to kind of thank them for not only the work they are doing at the garden but the mouths that is reaching outside of the garden and throughout Boston,” artist Jeremy Harrison, also known as Sobek, told WBZ NewsRadio's Mike Macklin.
A steel box that serves as a tool shed for the garden has been transformed into colorful panels that look like something out of a story book. One side features a spider, a second side is a butterfly and ladybug, and the last side is a squirrel.
Harrison said contributing to these kinds of project and being considered as a public artists has been what he’s been striving for.
“Since fourth grade, it’s all I want to do is make art for people, so I’m right where I’m supposed to be,” he said.
