DES MOINES, Iowa (WBZ NewsRadio) —A new poll in Iowa shows that Sen. Elizabeth Warren is taking the lead over other Democratic presidential candidates for the first time.

The Des Moines Register/CNN/Mediacom Iowa poll was released on Saturday as candidates came to the state for the Polk County Democrats' Steak Fry.

In the poll of likely Iowa caucus goers, 22 percent said Warren will get there vote for the democratic nomination.

Former Vice President Joe Biden dropped to second place with 20 percent.

Emerson College Director of Polling Spencer Kimball said this shifts the dynamics for Warren.

“Instead of being the attacker, she’s going to be attacked,” Kimball said. “We’ve even seen this yesterday with Mayor Pete Buttigieg coming out and kind of questioning some of her positions and policies. I think you’ll see other candidates now come after her.”

The poll showed Sen. Bernie Sanders falling to third place with 11 percent, followed by Buttigieg with 9 percent.
