BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — If anyone wins the Powerball jackpot on Wednesday night, they might have some new “relatives” looking for a piece of the pot.

The jackpot is estimated to be $1.73 billion with a cash value of $756.6 million. This will be the second-highest payout in lottery history.

Anyone who wins the jackpot might be bombarded with friends and relatives asking for money. However, if a Massachusetts resident wins, they have the option of staying anonymous.

WBZ’s James Rojas asked Powerball players if they would tell people or stay in the shadows.

“Not immediately, no. I would wait, let it calm down a little bit and get an attorney first,” said one hopeful winner.

“Keep it [on the] down low, I would tell very few people,” said a more secretive resident.

“There might be a few, but yeah, immediate family, that’s it,” said another person hoping to win big.

“Yeah of course. You can’t die with the money, so you’ve got to spend it,” said a generous woman purchasing her ticket.

Wednesday night’s drawing will be live-streamed on the Powerball website at 11:00 P.M.
