BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — According to new research from Harvard and MIT scientists, the over consumption of processed red meat could lead to the development of dementia symptoms.
The study, published in the Journal of Neurology this week, outlined an increased risk of developing the disease amongst those who ate over one serving of processed meat per day.
The study also found that the consumption of unprocessed red meat showed no long-term health effects.
Researchers also suggested that “reducing red meat consumption could be included in dietary guidelines to promote cognitive health,” according to the study.
The study also found that replacing one serving of processed red meat per day with nuts or legumes showed a lower risk of developing dementia or other cognitive issues.
According to a separate study published this week in Nature Medicine, the number of adults expected to develop dementia will double in the coming decades.
