DEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new trial date for Karen Read could be decided during a hearing at Norfolk Superior Court this Monday.

Prosecutors accuse Read of hitting her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, with her SUV and leaving him to die after a night out in Canton in Jan. 2022.

Read pleaded not guilty to charges of second degree murder, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of personal injury and death.

The high-profile murder case included eight weeks of witness testimony and five days of deliberation. On Monday, July 1, Judge Beverly Cannone declared a mistrial because of a hung jury.

Prosecutors said they intend to retry the case.

Less than a week after the mistrial, Read's defense team filed a motion to dismiss two of the three charges against her. The defense claims several jurors have come forward saying the jury unanimously found Read not guilty of second-degree murder and leaving the scene, and were only divided on the manslaughter charge.

Last week, Judge Cannone extended her impoundment order on the juror's identities, citing safety concerns.

Prosecutors and defense will discuss next steps at a conference scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday.
