NANTUCKET, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — GE Verona and Vineyard Wind addressed possible solutions to the broken wind turbine blade off the coast of Nantucket at a meeting with the town on Aug. 9.
The team compiled a presentation that included an overview of the incident on July 13, a plan to remove the remaining damaged blades, and impacts to the marine environment.
GE Verona confirmed that there is still about 8 percent of the damaged blade still on the turbine hanging above the ocean. Operations and construction of the turbines were paused since.
In the presentation, the companies also announced the partnership with Resolve Marine, one of the world’s leading salvage companies, to assist in the ongoing cleanup efforts. The plan to address the broken blade still on the turbine consists of four stages.

The first stage is to rotate the damaged blade to the very top so the rest will not fall into the ocean.
Then, they will remove debris from the remaining turbine and platforms. Lastly, the crew will address the debris that sank into the seabed.
GE Verona hopes to remove the rest of the damaged blade on Thursday Aug. 15, if weather permits.
