NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A teenager from Newton has passed away 22 days after he collapsed at a basketball game in North Andover.

15-year-old Preston Settles died Sunday night, after fighting for his life at both Tufts Medical Center and Boston Children's Hospital.

"Our wonderful, previously healthy, handsome, and perpetually happy son Preston Blair Settles has transitioned to his next journey. We want to thank the medical teams at both Tufts Medical Center and most recently at Boston Children’s Hospital for the exemplary care for and attention to our Preston. Preston’s pediatrician has been our rock," the Settles family said in a statement.

The Settles said that Preston's life will be celebrated on Friday at Trinity Church in Copley Square.

"Lastly, we want to thank our dear sweet Preston for being an amazing son and incredible human being during his short fifteen years on this earth. Hats off to you buddy for living it LARGE and maximizing your time. Those that know you well, know that you were awesome, smart, hard worker, adventurous, funny, a true friend, and a loving brother," the Settles wrote.
