WYNDHAM, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — New Hampshire veterinarian Chris Barnett helps save animals every day at the Rockingham Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Wyndham, NH which she owns, but her passion project has her efforts to save dogs in China.

Barnett started to use the profits from her business to help Chinese activists and American rescuers transport the animals to the United States for adoption. Now she’s raising money and awareness to the matter.

“Then you read and find out that these dogs were heading to the meat market and they were tortured and they were abused, and they came from these horrible situations,” Barnett said.

Larger dogs are a target in the dog meat industry. With that, Chris is in the process of adopting two Alaskan Malamutes as a part of her efforts.

“Tons of golden retrievers and malamutes and fuzzy things and all of them need homes and so they are having to be flown to multiple places,” Barnett added.

In addition, Chris is paying for two additional dogs to be flown to the U.S. for adoption.

“It’s going to be pricy but it’s going to get 4 dogs in here and it’s worth it,” Barnett said.

“Maybe support these rescue groups in China, maybe if they have more resources and more backing then they’ll actually be able to win this fight,” Barnett said.
