BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With the 128th Boston Marathon just a few days away, local officials updated the public on the security measures for the race.
Special Agent Jodi Cohen with the FBI Boston Division stressed that there are no specific or credible threats targeting the Boston Marathon this year. However, she urged everyone planning to attend the event to still be careful and keep their eyes open for any suspicious activity.
"While we are confident in this assessment, we are asking you to remain vigilant because the threat landscape can change at any time," Cohen said. "The ongoing war in the Middle East has raised the possibility of an attack against Americans here at home. Since the start of the conflict, we have seen calls to action from foreign terrorist organizations to attack the United States, but our most immediate concerns are homegrown violent extremists or lone actors."
Those looking to attend the marathon are strongly encouraged to use public transportation like the MBTA, which will be offering additional service both before and after the race on Monday. Several stations, including Copley, will be closed because of the race. Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox said consider leaving their cars at home.
"Please try not to drive into the city for marathon day," he said. "There will be a large number of people and a large amount of traffic closures."

Parts of streets throughout the city, like Boylston Street and Commonwealth Avenue, will either be closed or have parking restrictions throughout the weekend and on Marathon Monday. The complete list of closures can be found here.
The Marathon also has several rules about what participants and spectators can bring with them to the race. Commissioner Cox detailed several of the items prohibited from the race.
"Do not bring large backpacks, glass, and any weapons of any sort to the area," Cox said.
Spectators should also not bring any packages, props, costumes, coolers, suitcases, or large blankets. Containers carrying over a liter of liquid will also not be allowed. Massachusetts State Police have a full list of prohibited items here.
