BOXFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Residents on Andrews Farm Road in Boxford have a hard time getting anything from the tap.

Governor Maura Healey has declared a water emergency for Boxford as residents have been losing water access over the past decade.

The current private water supplier for the area, Andrews Farm Water Company, shut the water off and has not been responding to any questions, leading Gov. Healey to find a new supplier.

Locals like Karen have lived in the area for decades and are understandably annoyed when having to get their water from a tanker sitting at the end of the road.

“It’s extremely frustrating, you don’t realize until you don’t have it, how much you use it,” said Karen. “Just defeated, upset, not understanding how we are in this situation in 2025.”

Town Administrator Matt Coogan said while he isn’t sure when the water will turn back on, he’s fixed on finding a solution.

“We haven’t had any correspondence from the Andrews Farm Water Company. It’s almost as if they’ve abandoned the water system, and that’s something the towns not going to deal with for the residents, we’re going to figure out a way to resolve it for them,” said Coogan.

As the State looks to find a new supplier, Boxford fire and police stations are offering water and showers for residents.
