BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Rebuilding Together Boston is restoring the community once again. This time, the non-profit took on a veteran's home in Dorchester.

"The Virginia House houses about 25 veterans. Currently, there's around 10 that are living in the facility. It helps those veterans who as they've aged, really don't have a place to call safe and home," SAID Janice Walker, executive director of the organization.

With Suffolk Construction's help and Madison Leverich's lead, volunteers painted and installed a new pergola for sustainable farming to grow fresh vegetables and fruits.

"Suffolk employees actually pledge 20 hours of volunteer time per year, so this is one of many things that we do in the local communities to get out there and help," said Leverich.

Rebuilding Together Boston renovates homes for people unable to afford home repairs in order to keep housing livable and affordable, with no costs to the recipients. RTB has completed more than 600 projects since its founding in 1991
