Non-Profit The Harborkeepers Begin Year Of Boston Harbor Cleanups

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Community activists helped to clean up Boston Harbor’s coastline this weekend. The Harborkeepers, a non-profit, began their year of cleanups Saturday at LoPresti Park in East Boston.

The Harborkeepers, founded in 2016, is a grassroots environment group based in East Boston.

“These easy one hour cleanups we do with community groups. Last year we cleaned up over a ton of trash,” Harborkeepers community planner and organizer Heather O’brien said.

“I’ve always taken care of the ocean. But, when I was a child like these kids, we couldn’t touch Boston Harbor. We could go to the beach and look, but we were not allowed to touch,” O’brien said. “And I realized there were things we could do to make a change. It wasn’t just I believed it, I actually have seen it happen.”
