GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gloucester City officials approved a $10 increase on beach parking this summer.

Daily parking passes for non-residents are now $45 on weekends and $40 on weekdays.

Some residents said they don’t agree with the price hike.

“I think that’s outrageous to charge that much for people to come to the beach,” one North Shore resident told WBZ NewsRadio. “I would think that $25 would be fair.”

The new rule applies to parking at Good Harbor, Wingaersheek and Stage Fort Park. Non-residents must also make an online reservation for a spot through the city’s parking system.

“Everybody should have access to the beach,” another resident said. “That sounds like it puts a lot of people out.”

The city said the additional charges and steps to reserve a parking spot are to help curb traffic in the area during peak season.
