NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — North Andover Middle School has been reported safe after a hazardous substance was discovered in a tank that contained materials used in the science labs on school grounds.
On Thursday morning, contractors were removing the tank when it was subsequently determined that the tank may not have been fully emptied, according to a message from Acting school Superintendent Pam Lathrop and Town Manager Melissa Rodrigues.

As a precautionary measure, the building was evacuated so the hazmat team could do a full evaluation of the premises. North Andover Fire, Police and EMS were all on the scene.

The North Andover Public Schools and North Andover Police Department transported students off campus and families were notified about modified dismissal plans.
