NORTH EASTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Seasonal foods are always a treat in New England. And nothing tastes like fall more than fresh apples.

And there’s a sweet and tangy twist to the fruit that many people look forward to… candy apples.

They may be tough on the teeth, but they are sweet and delicious and come in many different styles.

Chocolate sprinkled covered caramel apples are a favorite at Hilliard’s Chocolates in North Easton.

In fact fourth-generation owner Erin Fernandez said the delectable apple treats are sold as fast as they are made. And each one starts with a fresh Macintosh Apple picked from a local farm and then covered with a wide choice of mouth-watering toppings. “They range from coconuts, all kinds of nuts, fall colored sprinkles, drizzles, toffee, Oreo…,” Erin said.

Julia, a student at Stonehill College, was a store customer and said she absolutely loves candy apples. “I like how the tanginess of the apple mixes with the sweetness of the caramel and chocolate or whatever is on the apple. I just love the taste of them together.”
