NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Kids from the West End House Boys and Girls Club in Allston got a surfing lesson Monday at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire.

Cinnamon Rainbows Surf Co. teamed up City Realty Group’s nonprofit City Kids to teach about 20 kids from Boston.

Two surf camps are arranged each summer by the nonprofit as part of their mission to bring new experiences to underserved youth.

“It’s a little bit daunting to think about going in the water, riding the waves, so that’s great. It challenges them a bit and then they have great stories when they go back,” City Kids founder Steve Whalen said.

Cinnamon Rainbows owner Dave Cropper said, “the water’s a special place.”

“Some kids, if they’re not comfortable in the water, just sitting on a surfboard or riding a surfboard on their stomach in the shallow waters is a win,” Cropper said. “And then other kids will ride on their belly and they’re like ‘how do I stand up?’”

City Kids and Cinnamon Rainbows have been partnering for ten years.
