PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A controversial condo development in North Plymouth is dead in the water after mounting opposition from residents.

Stephanie Kiefer, an attorney for PulteGroup, Inc., the construction company behind the waterfront development, made the announcement in an email to the town on Oct. 8.

“Pulte does not intend to pursue the projects,” Kiefer said.

The three-building, 163-unit project faced a yearlong battle with community members fighting to kill the development.

Residents cited a plethora of issues; among them were concerns regarding arsenic found on development land, a lack of adequate parking spaces and how the project barely makes a dent in Plymouth’s goal of at least 10 percent affordable units in the town.

“If even 20 of them have cars, it will be a nightmare for this neighborhood,” longtime Plymouth resident Margaret said.

Signs rejecting the project lined the streets in North Plymouth.

“In just this two block area, it’s a disaster,” Plymouth resident Natalie said.

Residents can consider the nixed plan a win.
