QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — After six years of construction, the North Quincy MBTA station finally has a parking garage.
The garage opened on Monday at 189 Hancock St., featuring more than 850 designated parking spots for riders and 700 spots for retail and residential use, according to the T.
“I think it’s great,” said one Quincy resident, “Everybody should be excited about it.”
The project began in February of 2019. In the meantime, those getting on at North Quincy Station had to park in a lot on Newport Avenue, which only had 353 spots in total.
Braintree and Quincy Adams stations have parking garages, but riders said those often fill up quick.
“It’s gonna be huge,” said a local Red Line rider. “It saves like 20 minutes.”
Daily rates for the new garage are $5 on weekdays and $3 on weekends. Drivers can use the PayByPhone app or get an invoice in the mail, according to the T.
“More parking is always better,” said another local resident. “People don’t have to worry about getting towed.”
