MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The start of school is just around the corner, and so is buying school supplies.
For some families, being able to afford school supplies is a big challenge, especially with rising costs.
There's a non-profit on the North Shore called 'Spur' that runs a program called 'Student Success Drive,' now in its seventh year.
The program provides backpacks filled with school supplies to students in need in Lynn, Salem, and other nearby communities.
But with inflation and rising costs, Spur's executive director, Lynne Krasker Schultz, says they need donations to meet their goal of providing backpacks to students from families in need, about 700 students in all. "Inflation has gone crazy," she said. "We've seen the cost of everything rise across the board."
