NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With the recent SNAP Benefit cuts looming, many Massachusetts residents are nervous about the future. But some businesses in Norwood are looking to help out.
The Norwood Police Department put out a Facebook post asking for food donations, but the local pantries got too packed. Norwood PD said they were able to fill an entire juvenile holding cell in just one day with all the extras.
Norwood Police Chief Chris Padden said this kind of help can go a long way for people in need.
“I grew up, my mom raised five kids on her own, and my dad was an alcoholic, and he had left. You know, we needed help when I was a young kid, and I’ll never forget that,” said Padden. “We are doing our own separate drive as well and trying to get it out to people within the community.”
With all hands on deck to cover the humans, a local pet initiative is looking to help out with furry friends.
The Charley’s Angels Initiative at Dirty Dawg Wash accepts pet food donations, and owner Candy Finch said they are here to help when things get tough.
“You may have to make a decision, ‘Do I take care of my animal, or do I take care of me?’” said Finch. “We don’t just have food, we also have accessories, we have beds and crates and leashes, and all that to help people.”
