NORWOOD Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — At the Morrill Memorial Library in Norwood, the idea of having true “quiet” has been taken to a whole new level. The latest addition to the library is a new, sound resistant study pod, which looks like a modern version of a phone booth. According to Library Director Clayton Cheever, libraries are an important community resource for finding the quiet we all need from time-to-time.
“Whether you need it for confidentiality, whether you need to have a meeting and not have your roommates or your kids, or your partner who is cooking in the background, this will give you that quiet space,” Cheever said.

Cheever also said that while the new sound resistant study pods are not completely noise cancelling, they do significantly dampen the sound from outside, creating a concentrated and focused environment. He also added that libraries are not the kind of environment that is always what it is supposed to be, quiet and reflective.
“We try to provide opportunities like this because libraries are community centers. This is where you can come and it's not commercial. It's a place where everybody is welcome.”
Norwood locals also enjoy the benefits of the library because of how quiet it is now.
“I love it in there, but when I’m in there I feel so focused and I get so much done,” one person said.
