Norwood Shooting Victim Expected To Survive, Police Say

NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police are investigating a shooting that happened on New Year's Day at an apartment complex near a commuter rail station in Norwood.

First responders were called to the Commons at the Windsor Gardens apartment complex at around 12:15 p.m. for shots fired in the area of an apartment building at 701 Landsdowne Way.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on a third floor balcony. NPD said the officers used a fire escape to retrieve the man and, carrying him by his arms and legs, brought him to the ground where he was picked up by medics from a Norwood Fire Department ambulance and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

"The 24-year-old male victim is expected to survive," NPD said. "He does not live where the shooting occurred. Officers stopped and briefly detained several people in the area, but they have all been cleared and released."

As of Friday 5 p.m., no suspects had been arrested, and the firearm involved had not been recovered.

NPD said preliminary indications are that this was not a random attack, and it is believed that the general public is not at risk.
