FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — If you've ever gotten lost in voicemail menus, it turns out you're not alone— but it's something the City of Framingham wants to cut down on with the employment of a Citizen Participation Officer (CPO).
The City is seeking someone to fill the position that bridges the gap between citizens and their city agencies and departments. The CPO works underneath the Mayor to help residents navigate the city's resources, and sees their issue through until the matter is resolved.
"As the City grows, people don't know who to call for different things: code enforcement, restaurant issues, this person takes that complaint to the proper department so it gets resolved a lot quicker and it doesn't fall through the cracks," Framingham's Chief Operating Officer Michael Tusino told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe.

The CPO will also be responsible for going out to community events to encourage residents to volunteer and sit on one of the city's 30 boards and commissions.
"It's to engage citizens to participate and want to be on these boards so they have to outreach, go to events. Each board and commission may have six to seven people, they all expire at different times, it's to keep those boards and commissions full," Tusino said.
The city's Human Relations Commission, which deals with issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity, hasn't been meeting recently because they don't have enough members for a quorum.
The CPO position has a salary range between $75,000 to $90,000.
