NWS Confirms Tornadoes Touched Down In Worcester County

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The National Weather Service confirmed five tornados touched down across Massachusetts Saturday.

According to the agency’s preliminary survey, the storm team said EF1 tornadoes was detected in Paxton and Holden in Worcester County over the weekend.

Additionally, two other tornadoes of the same category were also confirmed in the towns Berlin and Stow.

The NWS credits the rare event to the recent severe thunderstorm that moved across the area.

EF1 tornadoes are considered moderate with wind speeds between 86 and 110 mph. It is the second lowest intensity rating on the EF scale

The NWS is investigating damages to the towns.
