BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — New England could be in for a hot summer.
That's according to the National Weather Service, which issued its three-month outlook for June, July and August last week.
"The forecast calls for a tilt in the odds towards above normal temperatures across the New England region," NWS Meteorologist Andrew Locanto said.
According to the NWS model, there is a 50 to 60 percent chance that New England experiences higher-than-normal temperatures from June through August. That is higher than the percentage range assigned to several southern states, including Georgia and the Carolinas.
The forecast also indicates a 33 to 40 percent chance that New England gets more precipitation than usual from June through August.
Every state has at least a 33 percent chance of experiencing higher-than-normal temperatures this summer. Last year, the United States sweated through its fourth hottest summer on record, according to the NWS.
