DEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new children’s book is bringing the teachings of Pope Francis to a new generation.
New York Times bestselling children’s book author Peter Reynolds and his brother Paul partnered with the late Pontiff and wrote this new book titled “Our Treasures Within.”
Paul and Peter grew up Catholic. When they got the call to participate in this project, Paul said it “was a quick yes and pretty surreal.”
The story entails a universal message inspired by one of Pope Francis’s virtual gatherings.
“We’re all born with this little treasure box inside, and our job is to open the box and discover what gifts we were given,” Paul said. “And to figure out how am I going to share them with the world to make it better?”
The gift doesn’t have to be a talent in literature, music, or science.
It can be “kindness, a warm smile, a small act that could change someone’s whole day,” Paul said, adding that his brother was a bit nervous to illustrate the Pope.
“Pope Francis just has this almost like this impish joyful spirit to his face,” he continued. “He wants to make sure he could capture it.”
“Our Treasures Within” is currently in printing and hits bookshelves on Jan. 20.
