MANSFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A fire at a Mansfield apartment building early Wednesday morning displaced several residents and sent a police officer to the hospital.

Officials said crews were called just before 6 a.m. to the Station Pointe Apartments at 17 Francis Ave. and found a ground floor apartment engulfed in flames.

Firefighters worked quickly to knock down the fire, as officers and firefighters searched the building to evacuate the apartments and make sure no one was still inside.

According to police, the ground floor apartment is uninhabitable after suffering heavy damage, while several other apartments were also affected due to smoke damage.

One officer was hospitalized with possible smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.

Police said the American Red Cross is helping those displaced by the fire.
