BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Friday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced that a court officer at the Charlestown Division of Boston Municipal Court was arraigned earlier in the week on charges that he attacked and severely injured a man in the North End.

Officials say 53-year-old Anthony Firicano was complaining about the noise coming from the victim's friend moving a couch, then threatened to shoot and kill both the victim and his friend. From there, Firicano allegedly punched the victim in the face and pushed him down the stairs, breaking multiple bones in his legs, injuries that later required surgery.

Assistant District Attorney Alexander Jones said that Firicano has a storied history of making threats to people in the building and at a neighboring business. In those instances, he allegedly threatened to blow up buildings, shoot people, and physically assault people.

“The injuries inflicted by this brutal attack will affect this victim’s life for a long time, and the psychological impacts could last even longer. The fact that the person responsible is a court officer is deeply concerning. The work of any law enforcement officer is to protect people, not endanger them,” Suffolk County D.A. Kevin Hayden said.

Firicano was charged in the Central Division of BMC with assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury. Jones requested the suspect, arraigned on Wednesday, be held on $15,000 bail, give up all firearms and stay away from the victim and witnesses. A judge granted the request, though bail was set at $1,000— and in addition, Firicano was ordered to stay away from the location of the incident on Salem Street, stay in Massachusetts, and enroll in an anger management course.

Firicano will return for another court appearance on October 7.
