MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Thursday evening shooting in the parking lot of the Cambridge District Courthouse in Medford ended with one man dead, and his uncle in police custody.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Medford Chief of Police Jack Buckley said there is an active investigation into the fatal shooting that happened just before 5 p.m. on Thursday. Officials said that they believe that the two parties involved, both adult men, were uncle and nephew.

Ryan and Buckley confirmed that the suspect, 44-year-old Chenghai Xue, has been charged with murder after his 23-year-old nephew from Revere was found dead outside the courthouse. According to officials, Xue was allegedly attending a courthouse hearing where he was seeking an extension of a restraining order against his nephew. Following the hearing, police say both men exited the building and headed to their cars parked in the same lot.

From there, officials say Xue allegedly got into his vehicle, drove into his nephew, and shot him multiple times with a handgun, killing him.
