CONCORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts State Police are investigating a multi-car crash on Route 2 that killed a woman from Concord.
At approximately 2:50 p.m. Thursday, Troopers in Concord responded to reports of a crash involving four vehicles on Route 2 in the area of Sudbury Road.
According to a preliminary investigation, all four vehicles were traveling in the left lane of Route 2 eastbound, when they began to slow due to traffic ahead.
MSP said a Jeep, operated by a 35-year-old man from Arlington, first crashed into the back of a Honda, causing a chain-reaction collision. The Honda then struck the back of a Toyota, which was pushed into the back of a Ford.
The driver of the Honda, identified as 87-year-old Denise Frangules of Concord, was MedFlighted with serious injuries to Mass General Hospital, where she died. The occupants of the Toyota, a 90-year-old couple, were both transported to Emerson Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the Ford, a 54-year-old man from Wilmington, was also transported to Emerson Hospital. The occupants of the Jeep were not injured.
Troopers are investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash.
