Woman Struck, Seriously Hurt After Exiting Uber In O'Neill Tunnel

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 29-year-old Mattapan woman is fighting for her life after being struck by a vehicle inside the O'Neill Tunnel Monday morning.

The woman was hit inside the tunnel on Route 93 Southbound near Exit 23 around 7:39 a.m.

Massachusetts State Police said the woman got out of that Uber inside the tunnel while it was still moving and was hit by a 31-year-old Charlestown man driving a Jeep Cherokee.

State Police said the victim had been picked up at Logan Airport shortly before by a 27-year-old woman—though Uber told WBZ NewsRadio that the ride was not done through the Uber app, and could not confirm that the driver worked for them.

The victim was rushed to Tufts Medical Center, where she is currently in critical condition.

Both the Uber driver and the Jeep driver stayed at the scene and were interviewed by State Police, who are still trying to figure out why the woman exited the moving vehicle.
