QUINCY Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new construction project is potentially in the works again, in Quincy. The proposal could allow for two parking garages and mixed-use developments, a project that could cost over $150 million to complete. Residents in Quincy are getting construction fatigue from what seems to be a never-ending surge of work in the coastal city, and you can’t seem to go anywhere without hearing it or seeing it.
“It’s piercing [to the ears], it gives me headaches,” said one resident. The city is now discussing additional parking garages and even a new Trader Joes at the center of a mixed-use development, which would take over the IHOP and the adjacent lots by the laws of eminent domain.
The bottom line is that despite all these improvements to the city, residents have clearly had enough and want the noise to stop altogether. However, much to the chagrin of residents, the construction is showing no signs of slowing down, and the city is continuing to build around Quincy Center, and is currently on track to rebuild the police station headquarters.
“Getting sleep at night or having a dog when all the construction has been going on has been quite tough,” said Lydia, who lives off Southern Artery in Quincy. The new construction might be a burden to put up with, but the new construction also means more jobs and more opportunities for the community, which is certainly a positive.
