Orchid Auction Goes Online

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Since the start of the pandemic, the Massachusetts Orchid Society moved online for their meetings instead of once a month.

President Dina Deresh said the move to online was surprisingly successful.

"We were very pleasantly surprised that all the older members were able to get tech support from their families and just figure it out themselves in some cases," Deresh said.

So it was an easy decision to move their big annual event, the Orchid Auction, online.

Deresh told WBZ NewsRadio's Madison Rogers that all the plants are exciting, but the star of the show is the Catteleya Coerulea.

"It's kind of a light purple flower, which you don't find a lot in nature," Deresh said. "It is quite nice, although it is a pain in the butt to make bloom, in my opinion."

Deresh added that the orchid community is tight-knit, and everyone knows one another.
