STONEHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — From California to Massachusetts, two cougars have finally found a new home at the Stone Zoo.
The cougars, who are sisters and go by the names of Maple and Willow, can be greeted by visitors at the Treasures of the Sierra Madre section of the zoo.
The cougars were orphaned in California after their mother was struck and killed by a car when they were a few weeks old.

The sisters were retrieved by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and subsequently brought to Oakland Zoo’s veterinary hospital for further care before being transported to Massachusetts last month.
“We could not be more thrilled to welcome Willow and Maple to Stone Zoo,” said Peter Costello, Assistant Curator of Stone Zoo.
“Guests of all ages are going to delight in watching these curious cougars explore their new home and are sure to fall in love with them just as we have,” he added.
The Stone Zoo prepared for the cougars’ arrival by adding climbing structures to increase the vertical space within their new home.
Maple and Willow arrived at Zoo New England in July and have been underwent a period of quarantine before their debut.
The zoo has said that “some of the cougars' favorite activities include “fishing” for frozen fish, scratching up cardboard, and interacting with new materials, including feathers, as well as different scents.”
