DUXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A memorial playground opened in Duxbury on Tuesday, honoring the lives of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy who died in January 2023.
Their mother, Lindsay Clancy, is accused of killing the three children in their Duxbury home before trying to take her own life during a mental health crisis.
Hundreds of volunteers came together to build the playground at Wadsworth Field Park over four days, according to the Heard Foundation, a nonprofit started by the children’s father Patrick Clancy. The foundation is aimed at bolstering mental health resources for parents.
Patrick Clancy included special touches around the park to honor his children, such as structures painted in 5-year-old Cora’s favorite shade of purple, a firefighter panel for 3-year-old Dawson and a cozy toddler area for the 8-month-old Callan.
The names of the three children are also etched throughout the park.
“May this park provide a symbol of hope and remembrance as we rebuild communities. A gift to our youth in an effort to enhance and sustain their precious childhood,” the playground’s sign reads.
Residents at the grand opening of the park said the event was bittersweet.
“To have our young people involved in it is incredibly emotional,” said Nancy, a Duxbury resident.
“It’s just heartbreaking,” said Olivia, another Duxbury resident.
The playground can be found at 495 Tremont St. in Duxbury.
