BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Authorities say a flight out of Boston Logan International Airport was stopped after a passenger opened a door on the runway.

In a statement, Massachusetts State Police (MSP) said passengers aboard JetBlue flight 161 from Boston to San Juan, Puerto Rico were forced to change planes on Tuesday night. A passenger is accused of opening one of the airplane’s overwing exit doors “suddenly and without warning,” causing an emergency slide to deploy.

Authorities say passengers were able to restrain the suspect until MSP troopers got to the scene.

“Preliminary information indicates this is an isolated incident and we do not believe this incident poses a threat to public safety,” said MSP in a statement.

Authorities identified the suspected as 23-year-old Angel Luis Torres Morales. He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon at East Boston District Court and released on bail. Torres Morales will be allowed to return to Puerto Rico on the condition he stay in the custody of his parents and not travel, except to return to Massachusetts for court appearances.

In a statement, JetBlue said that another aircraft carrying the rest of the passengers had already arrived in San Juan.
