HINGHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Patriot Cinemas is making their movies more accessible by offering Open Caption Mondays at their two Hingham locations.
Manager for the Hingham Shipyard location Kevin O’Neil explained that this decision allows those who are hard of hearing or deaf to enjoy the films with captions directly on the screen, letting them read the dialogue, who’s saying the dialogue, and the sound effects.
They first began offering this on Oct. 27, and O’Neil said that reception has been mixed.
“We've got some positive and some negative,” he said. “Just personal preference really.”

This program also starts just in time for a slew of big-name movies coming out.
“Those will include Wicked For Good right before Thanksgiving, Zootopia 2 the day before Thanksgiving and then Avatar fire and Ash December 19th,” O’Neill said.
Both the Hingham Shipyard and Loring Hall locations are participating in Open Caption Mondays. More information can be found here.
