BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Bill Belichick left the New England Patriots after 24 years, six Super Bowl titles and nine American Football Conference Championships.
The decision was announced today in a press conference at Gillette Stadium. The split came after the Patriots finished last season 4-13.
WBZ NewsRadio’s Kyle Bray got some fans’ reactions to the news.
“Right now, it feels like it’s almost necessary. I never thought it would happen. I was always a ‘in Bill we trust’ type of guy, but from where we are, it seems like it’s time,” said one fan.
Another fan was hopeful that Belichick would have continued his tenure.
“I mean, I would have liked to see him stay on as head coach and maybe, you know, strip him of his GM [General Manager] duties. But it is what it is,” he said.

Other fans looked to the future of the team and the changes they want to see moving forward.
“I think our defense was great this year. I hope we get [Matthew] Judon and [Christian] Gonzalez back because I think they’re a great addition to defense,” said one fan.
Fans expressed their gratitude to Belichick for his historic run as the Patriots’ coach. “I just feel super lucky to have been able to grow up as a New England fan, seeing the era, seeing the dynasty that we did. And I just hope for nothing but the best, but new year, new us, right?” said one fan.
