BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The NFL has postponed Sunday's game between the Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs, after positive COVID-19 tests were returned "on both teams," including New England's quarterback Cam Newton.
According to ESPN, plans to head to Kansas City on Saturday were initially put on hold as New England awaited more COVID-19 test results and additional guidance from the NFL.
"Late last night, we received notice that a Patriots player tested positive for COVID-19. The player immediately entered self-quarantine," a team statement said Saturday. "Several additional players, coaches and staff who have been in close contact with the player received point of care tests this morning and all were negative for COVID-19."
On Saturday afternoon, the NFL tweeted that the game scheduled for Sunday at 4:25 p.m. EST will be moved to either Monday or Tuesday.
As ESPN reports, 31-year-old Newton is the first member of the New England team to test positive for COVID-19.
