BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Lyft has unveiled a new feature that allows drivers to see how often their potential passenger has tipped before accepting their ride and some Bostonians are not pleased.
"It is outrageous. I don't think people understand what a tip means," one resident stated.
Lyft drivers usually pick riders based on their personal rating, trip distance and revenue. Now they will see the percentage of rides that the passenger tipped along with a note about if they are timely regarding pick up.
"I would like to get picked up and not be judged," one local said.

The new update was met with outrage on social media with many stating that the company should do a better job compensating their employees.
"Lyft's got to pay the drivers more," another resident said.
While customers are livid, drivers are optimistic about the update but are weary of the long term impacts including losing money if customers switch to Uber.
Customers on social media also pointed out that some riders tip with cash — a move that some drivers prefer.
WBZ NewsRadio reached out to Lyft for a comment but we have not heard back.
