PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One generous Peabody couple will be helping out the North Shore Children's Museum this holiday season.
Martha and Chuck Holden will give a matching donation to the museum for every gift card sold that is valued up to $100. The campaign will last up to $10,000 donated.
According to Executive Director Ali Haydock, the donations will go towards helping the museum sell tickets to low-income families, thus "ensuring inclusivity and to ensure we’re providing educational opportunities here at the museum."
"We have a lot of these programs that make the museum economically accessible," Haydock told WBZ NewsRadio. "We have a $3 EBT card program, where folks who have an EBT card can present it and get a ticket."
The Holden's donation campaign will also enhance the museum's current exhibits and create new ones in the future.
The North Shore Children's Museum opened to the public in mid-October in the former TD Bank location at 10 Main St. Martha Holden, who served as library director for the City of Peabody for 17 years, has also served on the Peabody Cultural Collaborative board of directors, which helped launch the pilot program that led to the museum's creation.
The museum's 14 exhibits include a space room, a train room, a STEM lab, a farmer's market, and more.
"[Children's] eyes light up when they walk through the front doors and see this is a space just for them," Haydock said.
In November, North Shore Bank donated $100,000 to the museum to fund a banking exhibit and other initiatives.
