PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The City of Peabody has asked residents to curtail their water usage due to low water-reservoir levels.
Peabody is the second North Shore community to face water restrictions, after Danvers and Topsfield saw similar ones implemented last week. Peabody is taking a slightly different approach to the restrictions by making them voluntary.

Peabody’s Mayor Ted Bettencourt said that this is an approach that has worked in the past.
“We’ve seen noticeable differences over the years when we’ve done something like this,” Bettencourt said.
According to a press release, city officials are asking odd-numbered houses to water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and even-numbered houses to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
“It’s really just our attempt as a city to be good stewards of the water in our systems," Bettencourt added. “It’s worked well for us in the past. People are very cooperative; they want to try to help and be a part of something positive.”

The city has also requested that residents limit car washing to designated days, depending on where someone lives.
