PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A local musician is taking the time to spread awareness of mental health.

Peabody native Ryan Montbleau took to Instagram to open up about his own journey.

In a video posted on Tuesday, the singer spoke about his past struggles with depression and how he was able to overcome it.

“I’m in a good place, I have good friends, I have good family, I have a great therapist, like I'm doing the work. But I guess my point of this post is to let you know that if you’ve had those kinds of thoughts, that you’re not alone, I know I'm not alone,” said Montbleau.

Many were quick to respond positively to Montbleau’s video, thanking him for spreading awareness on a tough topic.

Before signing off, Montbleau had one more thing to add.

“And I also think right now, social media really sucks for my mental health."
