PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Not many things scream 'Halloween' more than bats.
And now the Peabody Essex Museum is home to "Bats!," an exhibit giving people the chance to learn all about the up close and personal lives of these nocturnal mammals.
Museum curator Jane Winchell said she hopes people will come away from the exhibit with a deeper appreciation for an animal that tends to be very misunderstood. "This exhibit is all about the wondrous world of bats, and our myriad connections to them around the world," she said.
Winchell also talked about how valuable bats are to the ecosystem, and how bats are far from the evil creatures of the dark as they are sometimes portrayed in movies and books. "Bats are the number one control against night-flying insects," she said. "And they pollinate flowers of the hundreds from around the world."
"Bats!" is on display through next summer.
