PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — As 2025 begins with a cold snap in Massachusetts, skaters in Plymouth are lacing up the skates and getting back on the ice.
At a small pond in South Plymouth, hockey players took advantage of the cold temperatures while they could.
Todd from Bourne was reliving some childhood memories by being out there.
“My Dad played [hockey], my uncles played, we all went out together,” he said. “We found a nearby pond with a bunch of friends, we’d just go out and pass the puck around.”

Sarah ditched the stick and puck for some good old fashioned ice skating. She was glad the cold weather was sticking around so she could get in some practice.
“I’ve been waiting so long, [it’s] like so exciting and I always look forward to it,” she said.
It has been quite a while since New England has seen temperatures below freezing- perfect for the bog and pond skaters.
There are some safety tips to keep in mind. First, make sure the ice is at least four inches thick before putting any weight on it. Second, it’s always a good idea to skate in groups. Finally, use extra precautions – pond skating is not the time to test your boundaries.
