METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Nevins Library in Methuen has a new resource helping to greet and interact with visitors while participating in research on how robots and people communicate with each other.
Pepper the Robot is the result of a collaboration between Merrimack College students studying robotics and Dr. Rickey Caldwell.
At 4' tall with hands and no legs, Pepper can read stories, dance, and take part in conversations. "Hi Pepper, how are you?" asks the library's assistant director Sarah Sullivan. Pepper responds, "I am always feeling good, thank you. How are you?"
The students are conducting research and gathering data on how humans of all ages respond to robots.
After interacting with Pepper at the library, people are asked to fill out a survey about how Pepper made them feel.
