Peres Jepchirchir Wins Boston Marathon's Women's Elite Division

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — After an exciting final stretch, Peres Jepchirchir is the champion of the Boston Marathon Women's Elite Division.

Jepchirchir and the second-place finisher Ababel Yeshaneh were neck and neck for the final mile of the race, but Jepchirchir pulled ahead with a final dash and managed to win the race by four seconds with a final time of 2:21:01.

This was the Kenyan's first time running the Boston Marathon. She had previously won three other marathons, the Valencia Marathon in 2020, the 2021 New York City Marathon, and the Olympic Marathon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games. She is the first person to ever win the New York City Marathon and the Olympic Marathon gold medal in the same year.

Her finish at the Boston Marathon was four minutes slower than her personal best of 2:17:16, which she set at the Valencia Marathon in 2020.
