EVERETT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Everett is about to be home to a one-of-a-kind combination for man and man's best friend.

Park 9 Dog Bar is set to open in the city on Thursday, April 13, and when it does, it will be the first combination dog park and bar in New England. The new bar occupies an old cement plant on Waters Avenue and offers 10,000 square feet of space for dog owners and their pups to hang out.

"You can bring your dog throughout the entire space," Emily Guess, who founded Park 9 with her wife Tess Kohanski and Tess' brother Chris, told WBZ's Madison Rodgers. "We have a little bit of a choose-your-own adventure based on your dog and your preference."

Park 9 Dog Bar serves as a doggie daycare by day and then for nights and weekends, it turns into a bar where humans can enjoy themselves alongside their dogs. One side of the space features a turf area for dogs to run around and play, while the other half is a lounge with a bar, tables, and leather seats for humans and dogs alike. The menu at the bar has plenty of options for both humans and dogs.

"We've created a really cocktail menu that we have, in some circumstances, paired with our dog treats," Tess Kohanski said. "Our spicy margarita, which is a crowd favorite so far, is paired of course with our taco treat."

Both Guess and Kohanski see Park 9 Dog Bar as a great place for dog owners and their pets to mingle.

"You can come and engage in the community and get to know different people [while getting] your dog out and about in the world and make them as happy as you are sitting at the bar and having a drink," Gusse said.

Anyone interested needs to register their dog beforehand to make sure the pet has all of its necessary shots. So far over 750 dogs have signed up for their programs.

Park 9 Dog Bar's grand opening is set for Thursday, April 13 at 5:30 p.m.
