BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Scientists and politicians spoke at Northeastern University on Monday at the unveiling of a new science building on campus.

Northeastern’s EXP building is an eight-story facility filled with tools for scientific research, discussion and discovery. In addition to classrooms and research laboratories, the building also features 3D printing labs and makerspaces.

Head of the National Science Foundation Seth Panchanathan called the new building “a reflection in excellence.”

“This is going to make excellent progress for solving societal problems, economic issues, as well as national security,” said Panchanathan.

Congressman Jim McGovern said the new facility embodies the future of STEM learning.

“This isn’t just another building full of classrooms and labs. This a building about thinking outside the box and Northeastern has always been a university dedicated to experiential learning,” said McGovern.

Senator Elizabeth Warren said she expects big things to come out of the EXP building.

“This new building is a playground for ideas. Ideas that will change the world, ideas that will save lives, ideas that will save our planet,” said Warren.
